Palmtop tiger FTW!

So Toradora has finally started. Around who is this show built?

Ryuuji Takasu

He’s a complete neat freak and generally a calm, gentle boy who’s always mistaken for a troublemaker because of his wild eyes. It reminded me of Angel Densetsu’s Seiichirou (if you haven’t read that manga yet please do, it’s hilarious), although Seiichirou had a face like a monster, while Ryuuji only has eyes. It’s a bit hard to swallow that this alone would be enough to make everyone assume the worst about him. I guess it’s something that worked well in novel, while not necessary translating perfectly to visual medium. He is a promising male lead though and thank God he’s not a typical doormat like 99% of his equivalents in other romantic comedies.

Taiga Aisaka

Taiga is just awesome. Nicknamed “Palmtop Tiger” for her rash behaviour she’s a bit more wild than typical tsunadere.

She can be scary..

But also can be cute (it wouldn’t be much of a romantic comedy if she wasn’t ) Ryuuji compares her to a doll, not just in size, but even her apartment looked like a doll house. She’s voiced by the same actress who did Shana and Louise voices, but here she does sound different. Overall, she’s definitely a very entertaining character and brought plenty of laughs to this episode. Plus she’s total klutz, that’s always a comedy gold mine

Then there’s Yusaku Kitamura and Minori Kushieda, temporary ( we all know it ) love interests for main characters. They are pretty bland so far, although Minori’s psychotic laugh gives me some hopes for the future

Ryuuji’s mom is pure awesomeness!

Ryuuji’s parrot on the other hand is full of epic, funny, but extremely disturbing fail

Ryuuji’s papa was so cool, he would hide magazines behind his shirt in case he got stabbed

There was no OP sequence in first episode, but I sure do hope when it finally appears it will be better than this jpop nightmare that ED is

Overall a very promising start, the production value is high, there’s a lot of humor in the show and the two male leads are very nicely written (especialy Taiga). Looking forward to second ep and seeing how their relationship will develop, especially once they stop trying to pick up each other’s friends and the plot will start to concentrate on  Ryuuji X Taiga (the sooner this happen the better the show will be ))
