[Code Geass R2 episode 23] Bizarre developments.
Looking at this map, one could make the case that not much has changed in Code Geass R2 lately. Lelouch and Schneizel switched camps and that’s about it. Isn’t that bizarre?
This episode was odd. Mainly because of Schneizel’s timing. Let’s a take a few lines to see how good his timing was:
One minute before Lelouch’s coup on the UFN in episode 22, where he tried to become emperor of the whole world. The UFN were on friendly terms with Britannia, the Black Knights were celebrating Lelouch’s return and all was good. IF Schneizel unveiled Damocles at that instant, the black knights would have rallied under Lelouch to stop Schneizel, because, claims of world peace by killing Lelouch with nukes would have been downright bizarre and threatening.
Schneizel striked at just the right moment, the UFN and the Black Knights were destabilized by Lelouch’s bid for supremacy. He gained allies simply because of his timing.
Now, if he waited any longer, Lelouch’s supremacy would have went through and Schneizel would have been history. If his plan wasn’t that tight, Xing Que would have had time to negotiate with Lelouch concerning the hostages.
That’s where we’re at concerning this sequence of events. Schneizel and the Black Knights against Lelouch and Britannia. Now, I have to admit, the whole thing is clever. I would have preferred if Nunnally remained in her grave though. I’m not sure where she fits in now.
Another thing that could have used some work was Schneizel’s philosophy. It was presented much too quickly and there’s simply no simpathy to be had for him except his antagonism towards Lelouch.
Next episode, we’ll see what Nina has in store. Lelouch depends on her to win the war against Schneizel. Odd that Nina is so central in the ending of Code Geass R2, isn’t it?
