208793162 Hard to Find: Tales of Vesperia Special Edition

The special edition of Tales of Vesperia for the Xbox 360 which comes in a collectors box and a 10th anniversary soundtrack disc, released on Tuesday, is almost nowhere to be found on the internet and most places will have you pay a little more.

For those of you who couldn’t find copies at retail price on google shopping or ebay – Buy.com still had it for $68.99 with free shipping. Until I bought the last copy.

Cheers,

lul, I’m not surprised there’s not any to be found, it’s one of the worst RPGs around. You can’t print too much of that or you’ll go broke!

jp_zer0: Worst RPGs around? You have to tell us why it is one of the worst RPGs. You can’t call it a bad game if you don’t like the battle system or gameplay of TOV. If you’ve beat the game and still call it worst, then you must make a review and tell us why.

Now now, if you think Tales is one of the worst you obviously haven’t played any bad RPGs. Tales is the king of high-budget mediocrity, not an example of how not to make RPGs…

Well my main criticism with the Tales series lies in the battle system and it is a fairly objective issue.

Gamespot.com puts it like so: “You can win many battles with mindless button mashing” I personally put much stock on the strategic depth of the battle system and JRPG veterans tend to agree with me. As you can see, this series fails at seducing me in a profound way.

Furthermore, although this one is more subjective in nature, I find the Tales series lackluster in the art department. The stories are nothing spectacular and the characters are extremely shallow and uninteresting. Simply not my cup of tea.

Bah, hope this clears out any misunderstanding.

I hate any every aspect of the last “Tales of” game I played. It doesn’t matter if there are worst games, I won’t be playing any of ‘em.

Well that explains a lot. I gotta give it to you though – the battle system lacks the requirement of having to use your brain to win 99% of the fights. Would be nice if Tales Studio would take a clue from Odin Sphere…

I beg to differ with your saying of the lack of depth in the tales battle system. Yes most battles can be won with mindless button mashing, but there is also depth under that for the more hardcore players. What I think it does is bring in more of a broad audience to the game, the casual player who can button mash their way though, and the more hardcore player who knows the system well and knows how it use it will get more out of it with its combos or whatever.

Though I would agree with its story and characters being bland, but that is most RPGs now and there are really no extremely good RPGs since the SNES and Genesis days really.

While there are options to engage in combat styles that aren’t “grab a sword and beat em up”, even casual players should be required to do things other than mash buttons at least 20% into the game. The player CAN block attacks but is rarely required to. The player CAN cast spells but is rarely required to (and you can always grab a friend to be your healer if you really need to, lol). The player CAN do elemental damage, but the sword is almost always just as effective.

I’ve never played a Tales game where I thought “ok now I have to equip A to counter B and make sure I do C before the boss counters with D”, which is pretty much standard procedure in any battle system worth anything (Final Fantasy, Xeno*, Megaten, etc.). The problem is the battle system hasn’t changed much since Phantasia while the rest of the RPG developers have moved past random battles and deus-ex-mashinga.

If you haven’t played this game yet, they have tried to change things up a bit. For example, when you stagger an enemy you can if timed correctly deliver a fast finishing blow unto them. Also, in overlimit mode, instead of constantly slashing like a moron, you can now chain your arcane arts (the mixture arte’s) with an overlimit type attack.
