Fall 2008 Anime Season Preview
Look at all that nice anime line up we’ll have this fall! I know some of you are less than charmed by this current season so this surely comes as a relief. Personally, I think this summer’s been kicking ass but hey, there’s no denying Fall 2008’s appeal.
The image above takes care of the small-fry so I’ll concentrate on the promising titles in this post.
Hyakko
Summary: The story follows the antics of four high school freshman girls, after they enroll into a huge private academy that teaches every grade from elementary school to high school. (from ANN news)
Adrian (Fellow writer currently unavailable) looked forward to it since he read the manga so I can’t help but trust his opinion on this one. Add to the fact that Aya Hirano is part of the Seiyuu cast, it secures itself at the top of my shortlist of things not to miss.
Kuro Shitsuji
Synopsis: One of the noble families of England: Phantomhive’s butler: Sebastian Michaels has got unquestionably perfect knowledge, manners, talent with materials, martial arts et cetera: but is also able to serve a 12 year old master.
This one looks like pure class. Love the art but my fear was that it was some sort of Shouta fanservice show. I read somewhere that it was in fact a comedy so all is good on that front. I think it’s safe to explore now.
CHAOS;HEAD
Summary: [...] revolves around a high school student named Takumi Nishijō who unknowingly walks into the scene of a gruesome murder on his way home. More mysterious events starts happening afterwards as more gruesome murders occurs in the area. Takumi struggles to cope with reality and the delusions he experiences as he tries to avoid being getting caught by the perpetrator behind the chain of murders. (from Wikipedia, game)
Hikkikomori? Gruesome murders? Nice art? My interest is cought! I hope it won’t end up being too cheesy. Stories that link the internet with murders are often really cheesy if you know anything about the internet. Still, worth checking out! Gives me a sort of Serial Experiments Lain vibe.
Shikabane-hime Aka
Summary: She is an immortal. Shikabane Hime has has made a deal with Buddhist monk, Keisei. In order to finally reach Heaven, she must “kill” 108 corpses. (From ANN)
New action anime from Gainax. That’s reason enough to watch but I don’t know a whole lot about it aside from these tiny bits of info. I’ll update once I find more.
Tytania
Overview: Tytania is a Japanese novel series written by Yoshiki Tanaka, and an upcoming animated television series directed by Noboru Ishiguro.[1] The series is a space opera based on a series of three books written by Tanaka between 1988 and 1991 about people who try to liberate the galaxy from the rule of the Tytania-clan and seeks refuge with a rebel force. The series is known in Japan as a novel series has not been concluded yet but the sequel is not published for a long time since 1991. (Ganked from the barren wikipedia page)
Ah, a space opera based on respectable literature. This looks promising to me and is guaranteed at least some sort of depth.
Yozakura Shijuusou ~Yozakura Quartet~
Description: Akina, Hime, Kotoha, and Ao are four members of the Hiizumi Seikatsu Soudan Jimusho (Hiizumi’s Everyday-life Consultation Office), which, in addition to helping kindergarteners deal with tough times, strives to preserve the peace of their little town, Sakurashin, by hunting down the troublemakers who dare threaten it.
Hime is a superheroine. Ao can read minds. Kotoha can conjure up anything with the right word. And Akina…well, he’s just a regular guy, surrounded by three supergirls! Together, they protect the town of Sakurashin. But that’s not easy, as the town faces demon dogs and other supernatural threats! (From Del Rey:)
Looks like like fun. Didn’t read the manga so I can’t tell you much about it. I’ll check it out to see how it turns out.
CLANNAD ~AFTER STORY~
Summary: The second arc of Clannad
That’s some guaranteed quality right there. Most of you know how to feel about Clannad already though, considering that the first season made some considerable waves. If you’re comfortable with Key, this is for you. (and me, heheh)
Michiko To Hatchin
Synopsis: The title’s Michiko is a free-willed “sexy diva” who destroys a supposedly inescapable prison fortress, while Hatchin is a girl fleeing her strict foster parents. The two join forces on an improbable escape to freedom. (from ANN)
I like a show that has lots of character and this seems to fit the bill, I’ll be checking this out.
Hakushaku to Yousei
Great seiyuu cast, 19th century europe, treasured sword. Call me superficial, this is how I roll. A few key elements and you’ve got my attention.
That’s it for my spotlight of Fall 2008, there are others worth mentioning like Gundam 00 2nd Season, Kannagi and ef – a tale of melodies but I’m not too familiar with them although I’m sure they could be enjoyed if you’ve been following them up to now. I forgot to add in Nodame Cantabile: Paris Chapter but it’s a wonderful music anime that I’ll be following and certainly blogging. There’s also a healthy dose of OVA like Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Gurren Lagann and Lucky Star that I’ll have an eye on (alright, both of them)
So what will YOU be following?

Shikabane Hime Season 1 is this Fall
Shikabane Hime Season 2 is Winter.
It’s not been delayed, it’s just been split into two seasons. Hell man, it even says so on the chart.
Hrmm, that’s true Denizen.
My source must have misinterpreted things. All is good now, thanks.
