Everybody loves Classical music, they just don’t know about it.

piano7 Everybody loves Classical music, they just dont know about it.

I’ve came across a wonderful lecture on TED about classical music and I thought it was a wonderful time to bring two of my passions together in a post. That is, anime and Classical music.

First of all, let me show you the excellant presentation by Benjamin Zander. He talks about the situation of classical music in our world, along with some theory aimed at the laymen. It’s very well presented so don’t worry about it being boring.

Now that you’re all warmed up on Classical music, let me talk to you about an anime that absolutely loved. It’s called Piano No Mori. It’s about a scruffy kid that finds a piano in the forest that only him can play. Some retired pianist now teacher tries to bring him to take classical lessons and get exposed on the world scene.

So there we have it, wonderful presentation and an excellent movie. Hopefully I bring some people closer to Classical music.

I’d invite you all to discuss your favorite composers and interpretors right now (Classical Music isn’t exactly this blog’s niche so I hope we can gather some steam.)

I’m going to kick off with a favorite of mine, Whilhelm Kempf and his rendition of Moonlight Sonata mvt.3

I like his interpretation because a lot of those that try a grand rendition usually go for the Presto Agitato. Which is too fast for my taste and most of them fail anyways. (except Glenn Gould.)

    Amazing lecture video.
Watched it from beginning to the end.
Now I have more reasons to love Classical music.
Gonna practice playing the piano harder from now on.

I wish I could practice my piano playing. Both my pianos are broken :(

Only thing left is my electric guitar and the closest thing to Classical I can play is Canon Rock :D

Hm, well since you asked about that third movement of Moonlight, I could at one point in time, but only for giggles. Going for ARCT, I felt there was too much on the line to royally botch it so the tempo got dialed down, and the examiners didn’t seem to mind. Incidentally, even my piano teacher told me not to play it at speed either.

intros last blog post..Taking off on a key change
