Baccano- 15 (DVD only episode)

Reunion of psycho couple.
This episode centers on Jacuzzi’s gang and how they ran into Graham and his people.
But first, we get a little back story of Nice Holystone and Jacuzzi Splot.
Nice always had a thing for explosives
Most people learn through practice and by their own mistakes, but when you’re learning about explosives
The results of your mistakes can mark you for the rest of your life.
I can’t believe how graphic that scene was. It was merely couple still frames, but it was gory and Nice’s screams were just so brutal.
Jacuzzi owned even as a kid, getting tattoo on his face to help Nice. The question is why did he do it?
I don’t know if it’s anime changing stuff from original writing or did BSS simply screw up a little when subbing, but in anime he says he did it so he can stand out too, just like Nice. While in original novel, he does it because the explosion has destroyed one of her eyes and damaged the other, so her sight is really bad and because of that she has troubles recognizing faces. Jacuzzi put the huge tattoo on his face so that she will always be able to recognize him, no matter what.
I don’t know who changed that: anime makers or subbers, but the original version is a lot better.
Speaking of Jacuzzi Splot. I really enjoyed how this character grew on me. He started as annoying whining brat and a coward and yet by the end of the series he turned out to be a great guy, despite still being whiny. He’s such a fun character, he cries and he’s constantly scared of everything. He’s a coward, but one who simply ignores his fear and does what is necessary whenever he has too. So we have a character who performs acts of heroism while being so scared that he cries all the way through them
Baccano is full of character doing crazy things because they’re simply mentally unstable, so to have a normal scared guy do the same things as them makes it even more impressive.
The other star of this episode is Chane Laforet.
She’s used to being treated as an object by her father, but here not only does Jacuzzi’s gang takes care of her, while risking their necks to protect her, but there’s also Mr. Rail Tracer who wants to marry her.
He sends her a wedding dress, with a holder for a knife included.
Damn, if they get together they will obviously be a great married couple
Of course this Idyll couldn’t last forever, not if Graham has anything to say about it!
Boredom is a sin, die boredom.
He decides to kidnap Eve Genoard for ransom.
Of course since he’s not used to making plans that go beyond what to smash next he screws up…
mistaking Chane for Eve, leave it up to Graham to not even check how his intended kidnapping victim looks like.
Who would bother with such silly details anyway?
Chane quickly makes him realize his mistake though.
If anybody needed more proof he’s a wacko, here it is
I just said something smart, praise me guys
Jacuzzi is just too much of a decent person for his own good. Since he doesn’t have enough money to pay ransom he offers himself in exchange, knowing mafia put a high bounty on his head that Graham can cash in on.
Nice? Why did you blow this up even though it was open?
His comrades though aren’t going to just stand idle and watch their boss throw away his life.
And the biggest monster of Baccano world tagged along with them
Claire Stanfield, aka Vino, aka Rail Tracer
Once again confessing his love for Chan while not letting Graham through.
Graham interrupts this “romantic moment”.
And what follows is one of the most epic dialogues in Baccano history
Now is your only chance to run
The only person I know who can match your pompousness is Ladd
Ladd? You mean the guy who fell off the train the other day?
How do you know about that?
I was the one who made him fall.

Epic fighting coming right up!
THE END
Yeah, it ends with such painful cliffhanger. I feel sorry for the people who had to wait months till the last DVD episode was released.
Anyway, another awesome episode, no as action heavy as previous one, but full of great scenes and dialogues. The only truly bad thing is that there’s just one more episode left
Oh and the lack of Issac and Miria, I hope this is fixed in last episode

I’m so glad that there’s a lot more Chane x Claire!
