I predicted episode 11 would be violent and I was looking forward to it very much. What I didn’t like though, is the sentimental parts. I feel they were overplayed. The feelings of the characters were already clear in my opinion and there was no need to masquerade further. Kurenai is at its best when there’s mystery, it knows when to tease, make you hungry for more. However, the last three episodes were redundant because there wasn’t enough canonical action. The pieces have been set and all that needed to be done was the ultimate showdown at the Kuhouins.

Episode 11 delivered in terms of action, there were many faces punched and that’s a good thing. The episode kind of felt like a Metal Gear Solid mission. I say this in the sense that you go in with your mission and you have a plan but then you mess up your infiltration and you just know you’ll have to kill every god damn fool in the neighborhood.

Talking about the infiltration, I don’t think Kurenai’s writers have ever been in cold weather before. There were a couple ridiculous things I noticed.

Firstly, when they dropped in the river, in normal circumstances, it should have been the end of that mission. As a Canadian, I can tell you that sub-zero wind (lower than 32 degrees Fahrenheit) combined with soaking wet clothes will land you in a hospital quicker than you can say hallelujah. I think it’s already a miracle that they managed to get out of the water.

Secondly, it’s impossible to drive a car in three feet of snow. Especially if there’s grass underneath that snow. Unless Benika’s middle name is “jesus”, which appears to be the case, the woman who can drive on snow!

I’m going to wrap this up by saying that it’s about time Kurenai closes up shop next episode. The plot has stagnated for far too long and the next episode better deliver something unpredictable. I’d be satisfied with another face-punching 20 minutes though, don’t get me wrong.
