Code Geass R2 - 18

In this episode 18 of Code Geass R2, the Geass turns on Lelouch… again (last time being the episode where Euphy went mad). The consequences are even more devastating this time around.

This episode can be resumed rather easily: During the skirmish to liberate area 11, Suzaku used the FREIA by “accident” because of the geass order to live on.  It was the only way to live so the whole area went “Boom”. Also, Kallen is back with an upgraded Gurren.

Now for the casualties:

First, those I’m glad that they are gone:

  • Luciano (actually got killed by Kallen), 3 episodes is all it took for him to go.
  • Guilford, useless character
  • That vice-governor of Nunnally, you know, she dresses in green and is always a bitch.
  • Suzaku’s Lancelot. It got cut into pieces and nuked. Hallelujah! A weak Suzaku makes a happy JP.

Now, the problematic ones:

  • Nunnally
  • Sayoko (the ninja maid)

This is a tentative list of course. More could be added and Nunnally could have miraculously survived both FREIA and Rolo. The aftermath of FREIA will be clearer next episode.

What will change now? Most obviously, Lelouch lost some of his biggest motivation in Nunnally. Two things can come of this: We could get the super emo Lelouch that will turn to drugs and sexual harassment OR we could get uber-angry Lelouch who will want to destroy King Charles even more. There is some potential in both outcomes but Lelouch is particularly unsightly when he’s sad, I think we can all agree on that.

What is not resolved and could grow even more problematic is the Rolo question. In the preview of episode 19, we see Lelouch venting his anger on Rolo. How will he react? Homicidal rage? Twisted homoerotic/masochist pleasure? I don’t know, that Rolo is quite elusive.

The Cornelia question. She escaped her cell, not sure what she plans on doing. She fought on Lelouch’s side against V.V. and she wants answers on Euphy’s death.

The Suzaku question. Now that he used FREIA and killed nunnally, how does that affect his relationship with Lelouch? Will he take the blame upon himself and beg forgiveness to Lelouch or will he blame Lelouch and further sour their relationship. Talking about blame, he could be charged with the assassination of Nunnally. We will see more of that next episode. Also, will he receive a new Frame?

The Viletta question: No update on that, she could potentially be tied to the Cornelia question during the next episode.

The balance of power, where is it at now? The britannian army has found an effective weapon in FREIA. However, some questions arise: can they mass-produce the ammunition? Who will carry the weapon in battle? Will it be allowed after the death of Nunnally?

The balance of power is further altered by Kallen’s upgraded gurren. On the field, it’s kicking ass and taking names.

The main question on the power of the U.F.N. is their leadership. If Lelouch turns on himself and stops leading the Black Knights like he did when he lost nunnally last time, things could get real messy. Also, we heard that someone had some info on Lelouch and his pretension was that “Zero couldn’t be trusted”. Things aren’t looking good on that front at all. I predict things will go downhill from here. It might spell the end of the Rebellion.

All in all, awesome episode, from start to finish. Code Geass wasn’t very healthy these past episodes but this one brought some change I can believe in (To quote Obama.)

There’s definitely more to the situation and future of the rebellion than meets the eye, but although this isn’t your typical anime, the story usually goes; The Hero never loses the final fight.

    @Phenos

Well I heard there’s a novel covering the year between the two revolutions. I can’t find it anywhere though.
