Playstation Store now with anime!
Following the trail of Xbox Live and its digital video service, the Playstation Store launched its catalog of movies and TV shows last night as announced in the Sony press conference on the same day.
What’s interesting is that among the distributors that signed on to the service is Funimation, which is known for re-dubbing anime originally licensed by 4Kids such as Dragonball Z and One Piece. The titles available on the Playstation store as of last night are:
- Afro Samurai
- Astro Boy
- Basilisk
- Burst Angel
- Desert Punk
- Gunslinger Girl
- Kiddy Grade
- Moon Phase
- Samurai 7
- Trinity Blood
- Xam’d: Lost Memories
Most of the episodes are available for purchase at the price of $1.99 with some exceptions such as Xam’d which comes at a premium price of $2.99. As far as I’ve skimmed through the catalog, all the anime is in standard definition. One thing to note is that all HD content on the store costs more than the equivalent SD versions.
Should you be interested in taking out your digital wallets, I must warn that every single episode up there has English audio only.
Errata: Xam’d is actually in Japanese with English subtitles.
